“Some enchanted evening” ……a nutshell description of the exceptionally convivial and enchanting September music evening of the Stilbaai Music Society. With his particularly warm, full and rich bass-baritone voice, the talented Christiaan Snyman, assisted by Olive Sandilans’s sensitive piano accompaniment and Lizette Vosloo as violinist, had the audience in rapture.
Die goedgebalanseerde en interessante program het uit n verskeidenheid van welbekende en geliefde liedere bestaan. Die eerste gedeelte van die program is gewy aan sommige Barok, Klassieke en Laat-Romantiese liedere waaronder Largo (Handel), Widmung en Du bist wie eine Blume (Schumann), Zueignung (R Strauss) en Infelice, E tuo credevi van Verdi. Die tweede gedeelte van die program is gewy aan verskeie opwindende en welbekende rolprent- en musikale blyspelliedere wat Parla Più Piano (Godfather), Moon River (Breakfast at Tiffany’s), How to handle a woman en If ever I would leave you (Camelot), Some enchanted evening (South Pacific) en die skitterende If I were a rich man uit Fidler on the Roof ingesluit het. Lg. het Christiaan met soveel entoesiasme en goeie toneelspel uitgevoer dat dit hom ‘n spontane staande ovasie besorg het.
Snyman’s brilliant singing technique, breath control and interpretation, clear diction, extreme musical application of dynamic levels and phrasing, supported by exceptional accompaniment, were constantly present in all the songs. His pleasant stage personality and special way of communicating with the audience were well appreciated.
Vier verwerkings vir viool en klavier, waaronder Minature Vienese Walz (Kreisler), Intermezzo van Cavaleria Rusticana (Mascagni) en Rio Scene (Piazzolla) is met uiterste musikaliteit deur Vosloo en Sandilands uitgevoer en het bygedra tot die besondere program.
Die genotvolle lente-aand is met die welkome toegif van S Le Roux Marais se lied, Heimwee, afgesluit wat briljant en sensitief deur Snyman en Sandilands uitgevoer is.
Stilbaai’s doors are wide open for these musicians in the future.

We were received with such great hospitality and warmth, and you are such an appreciative audience! The society and all it's members not only consists of highly professional, and educated people but are also musically very literate people and yet are open, warm and friendly, creating a healthy space for musicians to perform and feel appreciated. The society love and serve their community by enriching the cultural landscape of Stilbaai and create unique opportunities for classical musicians to perform, in an ever declining music landscape in South Africa. We thank you for the great work that you do, and wish you many years of wonderful performances and hope that we too may perform with you again!
