musiekervaring in Stilbaai. Niël is ‘n welbekende in die teater wêreld as
Niël sang beautiful songs like “Avant de
Quitter ces Lieux” from Faust by
Gounod, “A Vucchella” by Francesco Tosti, “Sunrise, sunset” from the musical Fiddler on the Roof, Javert’s song “Stars”
from Les Miserable and the evergreen “Because”
by Johnny Green. His rich baritone and excellent voice control, and his infectious
enthusiasm enchanted the audience. He is truly an accomplished showman and very
much at home on the stage.
But Petrus de Beer stole the show with his
violin, ably supported by Elna on the piano. His opening number “Aprés un réve”
by Gabriel Fauré was hauntingly beautiful and his poignant rendering of “Ladies
in Lavender” by Nigel Hess equally so. The opening theme for Fiddler on the Roof, was brilliant to
say the least. But the piece de
resistance was his solo performance of Pablo de Sarate’s “Sigeunerweissen”.
Apparently de Sarate was an accomplished violinist who wrote songs for himself
in order to show off his extraordinary talent! It is an extremely difficult Gypsy
song piece that asks for extreme virtuosity and concentration by the musician. Needless
to say Petrus de Beer performed it brilliantly – and obviously enjoyed doing so,
smiling as he negotiated the more intricate passages. It was a sheer joy and the
audience reacted with well-deserved foot stomping and cheering.
in Heidelberg” uit The Student Prince
talentvolle, bekwame, entoesiastiese musikante. Ons sal hulle enige tyd weer
hier wil ontvang! Bravo!
Louise
